Waitrose Blunder Exposed

One eagle eyed local West Malling resident has recently challenged Waitrose on their plans to replace the current corrugated paper cups with plastic lids, for plastic cups and rubber lids, all to save the use of plastic. Hmmm?

Whilst to many that doesn't make sense, the idea is that the throw away cups will produce more plastic waste just from the lid aspect, than the keep a cup 'for a bit longer' which is made of even MORE plastic.

"No, this simply doesn't work" said Paula Pedantic, a regular customer of Waitrose Kings Hill.

"For one, it will produce even more plastic which WILL one day be thrown away too, and secondly they've overlooked the biggest flaw of all. Waitrose customers are simply not pikeys."

Intrigued to learn more, we asked Paula to elaborate.

"Well, if you're stinking rich, drive a Porsche, Range Rover, Tesla, BMW, Audi - you're going to pop in to Costa or Waitrose for your coffee fix as opposed to throwing an instant Nescafe into your Thermos before work. Circa £3 a drink perhaps? The Waitrose coffee is free to all customers but if the throw-away cup is removed, they'll have to pay....... £3 for a plastic cup intended to be washed and re-used. Don't be silly! No waitrose customer is going to ask their au-pair to wash that thing, they'll simply buy another, and another, and another. MUCH MORE PLASTIC!"

Will the Autumn Waitrose change in stance simply mean, Waitrose customers are even more upper class having such luxury throw away cups for the average coffee price of £3? Paula has a point.

Discuss. :)
